Road teams stole the show yesterday in UEFA Champions League group play, but today the home teams handled the visitors for the most part. The day was also highlighted by scoring. Most notably, Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s four goal performance against Anderlecht. Edinson Cavani added another goal to give PSG a 5-0 win.
Cristiano Ronaldo led Real Madrid past Juventus behind a pair of goals, one courtesy of a penalty kick. That game also saw Juventus’ Giorgio Chiellini get red carded in the 48th minute.
Bayer Leverkusen also handed Shakhtar Donetsk a high-scoring beat down, thanks to a pair of goals from Stefan Kiessling. Simon Rolfes scored from the spot and Sidney Sam added another.
Manchester United barely scraped by, getting a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad thanks to an own goal from Iñigo Martínez, in the second minute of the game. Galatasaray got a 3-1 win at home over FC Copenhagen featuring a goal from Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba.
Sergio Agüero and his two goals gave Manchester City a win over CSKA Moscow in the early game. Not to be outdone by PSG, Bayern Munich also won their game 5-0 thanks to a goal from the penalty spot, taken by Franck Ribéry, who added another later. Bastian Schweinsteiger, Mario Götze, and David Alaba all scored as well.
