Boxing champ Vitali Klitschko to run for Ukrainian presidency

Heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko doesn’t face many tough challenges inside of the ring, but he will be taking on a new challenge as he hopes to become president in his home country of Ukraine.

Klitschko recently announced his plan to run for presidency by stating, “Everything that has taken place in parliament today with texts of laws, directly backed by ruling party deputies, does not intimidate me and will not stop me,” via the The Globe and Mail.

“To head off these various schemes and attempts at getting even with me as a possible candidate, I want to declare this: I will run for president.”

If Klitschko is successful, he won’t be the first boxer to take political office.

Back in 2010, Manny Pacquiao was elected to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines.

It won’t be easy for Klitschko to run for president in Ukraine, but he seems determined to do so. When you are a world champion in your profession, you clearly have the drive and determination to succeed in whatever you do, so you shouldn’t count Klitschko out.
