Detroit Red Wings trade rumors: Jordin Tootoo could be on the move
You’ve probably heard the words “forwards” and “glut” used by pundits to describe the situation up front for the Detroit Red Wings. The team has too many forwards as it is, and has a few players that they would love to recall from Grand Rapids. The odd man out right now appears to be Jordin Tootoo.
According to rumor guru Eklund, several teams have knocked on Detroit’s door about the abrasive forward, including the Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers. He claims that a source says that the Oilers have already made a pitch for Tootoo, but talks went south quickly.

The major sticking point in moving Tootoo at this point is his salary. His cap hit of $1.9 million is just too high for teams to take on right now, and without Detroit being willing to take on some of that cash, Tootoo will remain a Wing for the time being.
Until, of course, Detroit just can’t stand the sight of Gustav Nyquist in a Griffins jersey any more. He already has seven points in five games in the AHL and doesn’t appear to have much left to prove at that level. With the Wings right up against the cap though, Nyquist can’t join the team for monetary reasons.
