Elias Lindholm Late to the rookie party for Carolina Hurricanes

Elias Lindholm may be late to the rookie party, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make an impact for the Carolina Hurricanes. While Sean Monahan has already been trumpeted as the next big thing across the NHL and will stick with the Calgary Flames, Lindholm has battled a shoulder injury.

While the likes of Nathan MacKinnon and Seth Jones have already cemented their places on their respective teams, Lindholm has waited. Biding his time, patiently practicing and waiting for his dinged up shoulder to heal totally.

It appears that Lindholm will be able to return soon, perhaps even tonight when the Hurricanes take on the Minnesota Wild.

There’s still a lot of season left, and Lindholm was drafted as one of the more complete, NHL-ready players. His two-way presence was clear through his five games with the ‘Canes pre-injury, and he’ll look to get back on track within the next few days.

While it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to catch a guy like Monahan or Tomas Hertl right out of the gate, if those guys cool off and Lindholm impresses he could be a serious wrinkle in the Calder Trophy voting. That’s putting the cart before the horse though, and the youngster needs to make it through a few games without suffering a setback to his shoulder before those talks can continue.

Enjoyed reading several of your articles. Very nice. I look forward to more.

This goalie problem has obviously been brewing for some time. Maybe a reluctance on the part of the Hurricanes to admit that Cam just isn’t the answer any more. Maybe penciled in as back-up when he returns. Perhaps on the part of the fans too.

A look down the rosters in the Organization doesn’ show any stand-outs at goalie, IMO. Not an easy task, getting goalies, I know, especially when the team had so many failings to address.

What I love best about this season is this: not reported, maybe one that really couldn’t be reported. The Hurricanes have stopped taking CRUD from other teams. I think we’re as rugged a team as there is. LA came to town, we went to Minnesota, Flyers. A lot more respect. Not able to “face us down”, like before.
