On Wednesday, head coach Brian Kelly and his Notre Dame Fighting Irish got good news when they found out that starting quarterback Tommy Rees should start when the Fighting Irish take on the Air Force Falcons Saturday.
However, on Thursday, the team got some bad news.
Defensive lineman Louis Nix III, perhaps Notre Dame’s best player, will not be making the trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado, because of an injury, according to Matt Fortuna of ESPN.com.
The Irish are calling Nix III’s injury knee tendinitis.
Nix III, a 6’3, 357 lb. monster out of Jacksonville, Florida, is likely trying to heal up for the Irish’s stretch run, which includes a trip to Stanford to take on the sixth-ranked Cardinal on November 30.
Many thought Nix III, a very sought-after prospect, would declare for the 2013 NFL draft, but he decided to return to school.
The Irish also announced the offensive lineman Christian Lombard is out for the season after having surgery to fix a herniated disc in his back.
The Irish and Falcons will kickoff at 5:00 pm EST Saturday.
