Philadelphia 76ers release forward Royce White

Yesterday, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brent Brown said the Sixers had ‘six NBA players’ on their roster. I’m not sure if Royce White qualified under Brown’s ruling, but either way, he’s off the roster as the team decided to release White today, just days before the start of the regular season.

Source says Khalif Wyatt, Mac Koshwal, Vander Blue and Royce White all released.

It apparently wasn’t anything White did or did not do, it was simply the Sixers attempting to get their roster to size.

White, who starred at Iowa State, has had a long and public battle with anxiety issues – issues that cause him to not fly on road trips with the Houston Rockets who drafted White in 2012.

Problems continued between White and the Rockets, which eventually lead to Houston trading White to the Sixers earlier this offseason and White, to his credit, seemed to battle his demons which included flying with the team. Unfortunitly for the former Cyclone, it wasn’t enough.

He’ll likely look for a job in the NBDL.
