Will digital pre-orders for games be the norm in the future?

We are about to enter a new console generation and with that it could change the way we acquire new releases of games that come out.

The current process now is that we can either go to a website like Amazon to pre-order a game we want or a store like GameStop.

Then upon release of the game we wait for the delivery or pick the game up at the store. This is great because it’s the way that we have done it in the past.

However that could change in the near future with digital pre-orders.

One thing that Sony started to do with the PS3 is offer Day 1 Digital releases for popular games coming to their system. The program gave people the opportunity to have access to games without having to leave their homes.

This will carry over to their new console with Sony giving people the option to pre-order PS4 games as well before their release.

Microsoft will also have Day 1 Digital for the Xbox One and it’s expected that every game for the system will be available for download, especially the launch titles.

This is another way for both companies to have people get their hands on games easier.

The new consoles will definitely give gamers more options to have access to the games they want. The only issue with this is that it takes time for games to download even with a good connection.

The one positive is that with these new consoles you can start playing a game as it’s downloading and you don’t have to wait for it to finish to begin playing.

The thing is will this change the way we have access to games in the future and could it be the new standard of pre-ordering games.
