World Series 2013: Cardinals GM – Allen Craig playing in the field ‘probably a reach’

When the 2013 World Series began, the Cardinals were thrilled to get first baseman Allen Craig back. They knew it might only be during the games in Boston though as Craig, who has been dealing with a foot injury for over a month would likely be restricted to just hitting.

Craig, who had his first action since early September in Game 1 of the World Series said his foot felt fine after the game, but despite the solid prognosis, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak knows Craig playing in the field when the series returns to St. Louis is a reach:

Mozeliak on Craig playing in the field: “I think it’s probably a reach. We’ll see. Still have 48 hours.” #WorldSeries#stlcards#cardinals

First base isn’t exactly a position where you need to be the most fleet on your feet, but the last thing they want to do is re-aggravate Craig’s injury by playing him in the field.

He’ll be re-evaluated prior to the games in Busch Stadium in the rare case he can potentially take the field on defense.
