After being released by the Detroit Lions, tight end Tony Scheffler has received quite a bit of interest. Some of the interest received came from the Chicago Bears, a team Scheffler worked out for, this according to Brad Biggs:
#Bears worked out TE Tony Scheffler today also
There’s no word on how the workout went or if the Bears have any intentions to sign him.
If they do, he’d provide nothing more than insurance for starting tight end Martellus Bennett, though considering some of the nasty spills Bennett has taken this season – having a solid backup might not be the worst plan in the world.
Scheffler has recieved interest from other teams, like the Seattle Seahawks as well so it’s unlikely he’s available on the the free agent market for very long.
The former Lions tight end had 42 catches for over 500 yards in 2012 though had just seven catches for 82 yards through five games this season after falling behind on the depth chart.
There is some injury concern with Scheffler, who has been dealing with a concussion, though he has reportedly recovered.
