Although St. Louis Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said that he expected it would be a stretch for Allen Craig to play in the field during the World Series, manager Mike Matheny is a bit more confident.

Craig, who returned for Game 1 and 2 of the World Series as a designated hitter after missing over a month with a foot injury was not expected to participate as anything more than a pinch hitter when the series returned to St. Louis.

However, Matheny said Craig has been not only practicing at first base but also the outfield and could potentially play on defense in Game 4 and Game 5. Notice he did not say Game 3:

Allen Craig unlikely will play Game 3 in field but possibly in Game 4 or 5 #STLCards

Craig said that he hasn’t felt any soreness in his foot after playing during the first two games of the series, so assuming that pattern holds, it’s looking more and more possible Craig could be in the lineup for two of the three games in St. Louis.
