If you’re walking around the streets of Denver today and have been taking (toking?) advantage of the state’s marijuana legalization, don’t be shocked if see a swarm of gorillas descend upon you. No, you’re not super high; today is just the 10th annual Denver Gorilla Run 5K.
Organizers hope to have over 1,500 runners participate in the event, which would set the Guinness World Record for “most individuals dressed as gorillas in one location.” The goal of the run is to raise money for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, a group that does veterinary work on endangered gorillas in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In case you’re wondering, runners won’t be asked to provide their own gorilla outfits. The $100 entry fee for the 5K allows each participant to be given their own gorilla costume to keep, which is pretty cool if you’re an amateur runner looking to make headway in the lucrative Gorilla Gram business.
We’ll hopefully be able to link you to some footage later today, so don’t monkey around and make sure to check back in.
