The Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-1, 2-0 Big-10) and Minnesota Golden Gophers (5-2, 2-2 Big-10) will square off with a bowl berth on the line, in a sneaky important game in the Big-12 at TCF Bank Stadium.
The Huskers find themselves sitting at only 1 loss but are still struggling to turn around the perception that they’re a conference contender after the disasterous 2nd half against UCLA that left them in “disarray”. Actually it didn’t and they’ve recovered nicely, but they really need this win to begin to get back on the national radar.
The Gophers, meanwhile, have been off of the radar for a long time, ever since Marion Barber and Lawrence Maroney days almost a decade ago. Their 4-0 start was less than impressive based on competition and sad offensive performances in losses to Iowa and Michigan had Minnesota fans saying “here we go again”. Then, last week, Minnesota stunned Northwestern and suddenly have a chance to become relevant again.
Nebraska plans on starting Taylor Martinez after his injury kept him out for a little while, so it should be interesting to see how rusty he is. Minnesota will need to win the game on defense, but Nebraska has been pretty potent this season offensively. Too much Ameer Abdullah in this one as Big Red leans on the run game.
