Alabama students lose privileges after Nick Saban scolding

Thursday, Jack wrote on Nick Saban getting after his Alabama fan base for leaving early from the football games. Today against Tennessee it’ll cost some of the students some block-seating privileges. In fact 20 student organizations lost their reserved spots for at least today’s game against Tennessee, if not longer.

After saying that people aren’t obligated to do any of the hard work during the week that the team has to do, Saban was pretty clear in his expectations of his fans:

All you have to do is come to the game, drink beer, do whatever you want, party in the parking lot. I’ve never been at a tailgate in my life. All I’m asking is that you just come and have fun and stay for the whole game.

The Birmingham News says that University guidelines state that “excessive tardiness and/or early departures from the game are deemed unacceptable behavior”. The second offense is punishable by dissolve for the rest of the season and the third offense would ban that organization from sitting together.

Maybe it’s because I come from a small college on the other side of the country, but this is craziness! I always knew they took football seriously at Bama and other schools but if you leave a little bit early you can’t sit with your friends any more? That’s just plain funny!

Oh the ever-watchful eye of Nick Saban! (To be fair I realize this was probably in place long before he got there and likely exists at other Universities that have six figure numbers show up every week… but still).
