It is a big day in the soccer world, it is the Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid. These two Spanish clubs are amongst the biggest sports teams in the world. Forbes ranked these two clubs in the top three of their most valuable sports teams list.
The Clasico is a rivalry that compares to Red Sox-Yankees, Ohio State-Michigan, and Lakers-Celtics. It also features four of the biggest stars in the soccer world. Real Madrid paired Gareth Bale with Cristiano Ronaldo, and Barcelona brought in Neymar to play along side Lionel Messi.
“Real Madrid always demand the most from you. They’re playing better and better,” Barcelona captain Carles Puyol said, via ESPN FC. “We’ll have to be at our best to beat them. We know they’re dangerous on the break. We know them very well.”
While there is a lot of pressure and attention on this match, Puyol is downplaying the significance of it.
“It won’t decide the title,” he said. “There’s a long way still to go but it is a good opportunity to play well and gain confidence.”
Both clubs came into the season with new managers. Real Madrid’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti has been impressed by Ronaldo in particular.
“Cristiano for his professionalism. He is very serious, looks after the small details. He motivates and helps others. Cristiano trains well, not only on the pitch. He is diligent and professional off the field too.”
