The Pittsburgh Penguins can’t seem to get their defense healthy. The Rob Scuderi injury is only the most recent blow to their blue line. Only one game after the Pens got Kris Letang back off of the IR list and into game action, Scuderi was forced to leave the Penguins game against the Toronto Maple Leafs following a hit from David Clarkson.
No sign of Scuderi at start of 2nd for #pens. Favored left leg after hit from Clarkson with 21 seconds left in 1st.

There’s no timeline for his return at this point, but Scuderi missing any time would be a severe blow to Pittsburgh’s defensive core. He’s one of the stronger stay-at-home types, and his play allows guys like Letang to take risks in the offensive zone without worrying about their own end as much.
Here’s a look at the injury.
Scuderi couldn’t put any weight on his left leg after the collision either.
No immediate update on Rob Scuderi. Wasn’t able to put much weight on his left leg. #Penguins

It looks like a good thing that the Penguins decided to keep Olli Maatta around. If defenders continue to drop like this in Pittsburgh then he’ll be on the second pairing by the Olympic break.
