Juan Martin del Potro beats Roger Federer in Swiss Indoors final

For the second straight year, Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina has beaten Roger Federer of Switzerland for the Swiss Indoor title. Del Potro won in three sets over Federer, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-4 on Sunday.

Federer has won this particular title five times, but has lost to del Potro in the finals he past two years. The tough loss adds to Federer’s streak of tournaments without a championship, and hasn’t won a title in 14 months. According to the Associated Press however,

Still, the sixth-ranked Swiss star edged closer to securing his place in the eight-man lineup at the ATP World Tour Finals in London starting next week.

The win marks del Potro’s fourth title this season, which not surprisingly, have all come on hard courts.

Roger Federer has been on quite a decline over the past year. Many people think he’s getting too old for the up and coming stars like del Potro, and that his prime has passed. While that may be true, Federer isn’t the type of player who plays as hard as he can and then just simply loses after giving up. Federer will eventually get a title soon, whether it’s a grand slam championship, or an ATP championship; he’ll get one soon.

I think he’s still got something left in the tank, and one of these days he’s going to impress all of us in my opinion. What do you think of Roger Federer’s career as of this past season? Do you think he can still win?
