Coming into Game 4 of the 2013 World Series, there was concern that Boston Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz might not be able to go very long as he’s been dealing with arm fatigue. Buchholz, who missed a large portion of the season with an arm injury was originally scheduled to take the mound in Game 3, though the Red Sox hoped giving him an extra day of rest would be beneficial.
So far? Well, if the warmup toss is any indicator, yikes.
Buchholz, who went out in the bottom of the first inning to warm up promptly sailed a pitch to the backdrop, normally nothing more than a slip of the finger though given Buchholz’s injury concern, you have to wonder if it’s something more.
Hopefully for the Red Sox and their pitcher, it was just a loose grip on the ball and nothing more.
Thankfully, there was no bat boy en route to give the home plate umpire a new batch of balls.
