There is no position on the diamond more grueling than that of catcher. There’s also no position where you stand to get injured more often, either.

Sure, injuries happen and they’re unpreventable most times, but at catcher, you’re often left as a defenseless body as a player comes charging at you with 90-feet of space to get as much momentum as possible before they attempt to knock your block off.

Envious of catchers yet? Me either.

It takes a special breed, say like Yadier Molina who stood right in there and was ready to take a booming hit from the hefty David Ortiz as he tagged up from third base on a sacrifice fly. Thankfully for all parties involved though, a noodle arm through prevented any type of drastic collision at home plate, though that didn’t make it any less entertaining.

Seriously, applause on the slide too, Big Papi.
