Bengals Taylor Mays to miss Thursday night game against Dolphins

It looks like the Cincinnati Bengals have finally caught the injury bug.

Earlier today it was reported that starting middle linebacker Rey Maualuga for up to a month, and now it looks like defensive back Taylor Mays will also miss Thursday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

According to ESPN, Mays was listed out on the Bengals’ first injury report. Mays injured his right shoulder on the final play of the first half last Sunday.

While Maualuga was not listed as out, it is highly unlikely he will be cleared to play with both a concussion and an MCL sprain. Besides Mays and Maualuga, the Bengals are already missing cornerback Leon Hall, out for the season with an Achilles tear, and defensive tackle Devon Still on defense.

Mays, a versatile and hard-hitting defensive back, has also played some nickel linebacker for the Bengals, and would have likely seen reps at the position in place Maualuga. But with both of them out, the Bengals are awfully thin at he position, and will now have to rely on some sort of rotation between Michael Boley, Vincent Rey, and Jayson DiManche.

Although there is no indication he will not play, Boley did appear in the Did Not Participate portion of the Monday Walkthrough along with Maualuga. If Boley does miss the game, the Bengals could be in real trouble at middle linebacker during a short week.
