Gegard Mousasi wants to fight Lyoto Machida

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida was successful in his move to middleweight thanks to a beautiful headkick that landed squarely on the dome of Mark Munoz, but it didn’t take long for another contender at 185-pounds to call out for a fight.

Gegard Mousasi, who once held Strikeforce gold, would like a crack at Machida to determine who is the top contender for the middleweight belt.

“I want to make an impact in the middleweight division and to fight the best contenders out there,” Mousasi told MMAWeekly. “I respect Machida and would like to test my stand-up against him. I believe a fight between us would determine the No.1 contender in the middleweight division. ‘The Dream Catcher vs. The Dragon’ sounds good to me. Let’s do it.”

UFC president Dana White has previously said that he would like to see Vitor Belfor vs. Lyoto Machida, but Belfort has a fight currently scheduled and he has been hand-picking his opponents recently.

If Belfort wants none of Machida, then Mousasi vs. Machida would be one of the most exciting fights you could make at 185 and the fans would love to see it.
