DEFENSIVE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Bryan Rose: Kiko Alonso, LB, Buffalo Bills

Dude is a machine and looks like a ten year veteran on the field.

Patrick Allen: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, Detroit Lions

The 2013 rookies aren’t an overly impressive group but Ansah is making a big impact for the Lions with four sacks and 11 hurries. Not too shabby for half a season’s work.

Josh Sanchez: Kiko Alonso, LB, Buffalo Bills

Alonso had a breakout game early in the first half of the season when he recorded a whopping 20+ tackles in a single game. He has an unbelievable nose for the ball and a well rounded statline — 81 tackles, 4 INTs, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. He is the type of player that you can build your defense around.

Mike Dyce: Kiko Alonso, LB, Buffalo Bills

Alonso has been a beast for the Bills at linebacker. He is second in the league with 81 tackles and tied for the lead with four interception. Those numbers are on par with NFL veteran Sean Lee of the Dallas Cowboys. He also has a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Much like the Cowboys and Lee, the Bills have found their defensive center-piece.
