Arsenal and Chelsea are in the midst of a tough stretch of games. They played in the middle of last week in the Champions League competition and again this weekend in the English Premier League. They won’t get a break this week because they’re squaring off in a Capital One Cup match. They follow that up with English Premier League action this weekend and Champions League next week again. Arsenal plays Liverpool, who sit in third place, this weekend as well.
Capital One Cup is a competition started in 1960 that is similar to the FA Cup, which allows significantly more teams to enter (758 entered in 2012-13) from all levels of soccer, the Capital One Cup only allows the 20 Premier League clubs and 72 Football League clubs to enter.
The current champion is Swansea City, who won their first title last year. Liverpool is the most dominant club having one the competition 8 times.
This past weekend Chelsea defeated Manchester City after keeper Joe Hart made a mistake allowing Fernando Torres to score in the 89th minute.
“This is a goal of belief,” Torres said, via ESPN FC. “I used to have a team-mate who told me every ball can be the most important ball of the game, and this is a clear example, a long ball and a misunderstanding and you have the ball to pass into the net. I was lucky.
“I am feeling good and with high confidence, and feeling better in the system we are playing with more space. Hopefully we can keep improving as a team as it is just the beginning of the season and important games are coming.”
