Calvin Johnson is better than Jerry Rice

Calvin Johnson put together some monster numbers on Sunday. The insane 14-catch, 329 yards, and 2 touchdowns is a state line that would even impress Jerry Rice. But to say that it automatically makes Johnson the G.O.A.T. over Rice is a scooch premature. I’m not big on comparing players of different eras anyway. Can’t we just enjoy the highlights Johnson provides without trying to classify them or qualify them but pitting them against Jerry Rice’s career?

Let’s not even mention that Rice played on a much better team with much better quarterbacks and much better personnel around him but also in a league where it wasn’t as pass-happy as today. Let’s also not mention the fact that Johnson plays on a crappier team that is more often than not playing from behind and having to throw the ball more. Just appreciate both. How hard is that? Johnson is a beast and can catch pretty much anything that is thrown his way so just leave it at that and try not to put him in competition with a career like Rice’s.
