The USC Trojans have not won at Reser Stadium since 2004, losing there multiple times while being ranked in the top-five nationally. With a game against the Oregon State Beavers coming up on Friday, the Trojans have been preparing by blasting chainsaw noises during practice to simulate the third-down chainsaw revving that occurs at every Beaver game. (Yes, it’s as annoying of a “tradition” as it sounds. And no, there’s no indication that the “Crank it like a Chainsaw” song is being played to USC’s practices.)
Offensive lineman John Martinez spoke about the noise the Trojans had to deal with when they went to Reser (and lost) in 2010:
That crowd was insane. Coach O is trying to get us ready for it. So whenever we hear that [chainsaw] sound we won’t think anything of it (Los Angeles Times).
If head coach Ed Orgeron really wants to prepare his squad for Friday, he should have the Trojans practice against anthropomorphic traffic cones.
