Having injured his shoulder against Rice, UTEP Miners quarterback Jameil Showers won’t play when his team travels to college station to take on the Texas A&M Aggies. As you may recall, Showers was slated to be the starting quarterback for the Aggies last season before being beaten out for the job by some unknown guy named Johnny Manziel (I wonder how he’s doing now?).
UTEP head coach Sean Kugler said he was disappointed that Showers will be able to play against the Aggies:
He’s got a separated shoulder and will be out for an extended period of time. I would hope he’ll come back [this season] but I don’t think that’s the case right now.
He’s disappointed. I’m disappointed for the young man. I was really excited for him to get the opportunity to go back and play at the school he graduated from. I’m just sick for the young man. We lose a great player and one of our best competitors. He’s still going to go on the trip and be a team captain for this game. I’m just sick for the young man that he can’t participate (Dallas Morning News).
Showers has thrown for 1,263 yards and 11 touchdowns this season for the Miners. He’s also contributed four rushing touchdowns.
