No. 1 welterweight contender Johny Hendricks is preparing to face off in the biggest fight of his life at UFC 167 on Nov. 16 against Georges St-Pierre. Hendricks is looking to shock the world by upsetting St-Pierre in his main event title fight, but the top contender will be making history before he even enters the octagon.
Hendricks will be the first fighter in UFC history to ever enter the cage with a sponsorship from Reebok.
Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting first reported the news on Wednesday’s episode of UFC Tonight.
Reebok had previously sponsored Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but the company would not pay the UFC’s sponsorship tax, which led to Jackson being unable to rock their gear during his fight.
Now, the company has decided to ante up and allow Hendricks to be the latest UFC fighter with a blue-chip sponsor inside of the cage.
Reebok joins the likes of Nike and Under Armour, who sponsor light heavyweight champion Jon Jones ans St-Pierre respectively, so now the UFC continues to add top sponsors that show just how much the sport has grown in it’s twenty years.
