The New Orleans Pelicans made a big splash in the offseason, trading the right to former Kentucky Wildcats big man Nerlens Noel, once thought to be the obvious top pick in the 2013 NBA draft, to the Philadelphia 76ers for all-star point guard Jrue Holiday.

Last season, the Pelicans made a few key additions as well. They drafted another Kentucky big man, Anthony Davis, with the #1 pick and acquired power forward Ryan Anderson from the Orlando Magic via the sign-and-trade. They sent big man Gustavo Ayon to Orlando in return.

Anderson, who has already had a very rough offseason due to the death of his girlfriend, got more bad news.

Anderson will be out one-to-three weeks with a chip fracture in a toe on his right foot.

The injury, originally diagnosed as a broken bone in his big toe, was discovered “after Anderson experienced discomfort during recent practices.

Anderson averaged 16.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season. The marksman shot 38.2% from the floor.

The Pelicans will host the 1-0 Indiana Pacers at 8:00 pm EST Wednesday.
