Semyon Varlamov held on charges of assault, kidnapping

Colorado Avalanche Semyon Varlamov has turned himself over to the Denver Police Department and has been arrested on charges of third-degree assault and second-degree kidnapping. Ryan Parker and Nick Groke of the Denver Post initially broke the news earlier this evening:

Police arrested Varlamov on second-degree kidnapping and third-degree assault charges, police said. The assault charge is a Class 4 felony charge; the kidnapping charge is a misdemeanor.

The police charges stem from an incident on Tuesday, police said.

The Post and several other news outlets have also made the Avalanche’s press release on the matter known. The team had this to say about the charges:

The Colorado Avalanche organization is aware of the allegations concerning Semyon Varlamov. At this time, and until the conclusion of this investigation, the Avalanche organization will have no further comment on this situation.

Varlamov will be held in jail overnight.

It’s also being reported that the assault charges seemingly involved a deadly weapon of some kind, based on the initial charges.

The “without bond” line has been used by various sources, but it’s worth noting that an initial bond is never set for domestic violence charges.
