According to The Wrap, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played the title role in the Kick-Ass films, is set to play Quicksilver, also known as Pietro Maximoff, in the upcoming film The Avengers: The Age of Ultron.
Rumors of his casting have been circulating for some time; however, a few issues had to be hammered out before he could eventually join the cast. The biggest of those issues was scheduling.
Taylor-Johnson is married to Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of the upcoming on-screen adaption of Fifty Shades of Grey.
The star is also confirmed to be joining the cast of the new Godzilla reboot due out next year from director Gareth Edwards. Also starring in the radioactive monster reboot is Elizabeth Olsen, who will also be joining him in Avengers as Quicksilver’s sister, Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff.
Since Quicksilver and his sister are the children of Magneto, Quicksilver will also be featured in the upcoming film X-Men: Days of Future Past; however since the X-Men franchise belongs to 20th Century Fox, Taylor-Johnson will not be playing the role in the X-Men film. That role will be played by Taylor-Johnson’s Kick-Ass co-star Evan Peters in Days of Future Past.
The film, directed by geek god Joss Whedon, will reunite Robert Downey Jr. as our favorite metal-suited superhero, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, the God of Thunder, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Chris Evans as Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as the mean, green smashing machine, the Incredible Hulk, Jeremy Renner as sniper Hawkeye, Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, and Samuel L. Jackson as director Nick Fury.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron is scheduled to be released on May 1, 2015.
