The tarp that normally covers the south end zone at Floyd Casey Stadium will be removed when the Baylor Bears take on the Oklahoma Sooners next week, allowing for (roughly) an extra 3,500 seats to be available. The Bears, 7-0 on the year and possessing the country’s best offense, are thus guaranteed to break the previous attendance record of 51,835.
(Baylor fans are certainly hoping for a different outcome, as the previous record was set during a 31-21 loss to the Texas A&M Aggies in 2006.)
Nick Joos, Baylor’s executive associate director for external affairs, discussed the decision with the Waco Tribune:
We are excited to pull the tarp for the Oklahoma game and look forward to an outstanding crowd for this key matchup. We have been consistent in saying that when we had the demand, we would pull the tarp and we clearly have it for the last two Baylor games ever at Floyd Casey Stadium.
The Bears will move from Floyd Casey Stadium to a new on-campus stadium next season.
