The Florida Gators will not begin the 2013-14 season with three suspended players.
The Gators have suspended two transfers, sophomore forward Dorian Finney-Smith, who spent the 2011-12 season with the Virginia Tech Hokies and junior big man Damontre Harris, who spent two years with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
They’ll join senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin on the bench.
“Well, I mean, you know, it is what it is,” Billy Donovan told Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com Thursday. “We just try to go with the guys that we know are going to be available, going to be there to play.”
Goodman says Wilbekin will likely be out 3-5 games while Finney-Smith and Harris will miss the first two games.
“There’s some things that they need to do,” Donovan said. “Hopefully, they will do it and we’ll see how that translates going forward.”
Finney-Smith averaged 6.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in his one season in Blacksburg.
Harris put up 6.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game during the 2011-12 season for the Gamecocks.
Wilbekin averaged 9.1 points, 5.0 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game last season.
