The South Carolina Gamecocks have new life in the SEC East race after winning in double overtime vs the Missouri Tigers last week, and they’ll look to build off that momentum when they host the Mississippi State Bulldogs, a team that has its work cut out if they are going to make a fourth straight bowl appearance.

At 4-3, they’re going to need to upset somebody with games against Alabama, Texas A&M and Ole Miss still on the schedule, and with the Gamecocks riding high after their season-shifting win last week, the Bulldogs may be able to sneak up on USC and give them a more competitive game than anyone is expecting.

But although USC running back Mike Davis was flying under the radar when the season began, he’s got everyone’s attention now after rushing for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns and has carried the Gamecoks offense:

"“He is an awesome back,” USC right tackle Brandon Shell said of Davis. “He can do it all. I’m happy to block for a back like Mike Davis. He’s one of the best, if not the best, in the SEC. I just like blocking for him. He knows how to read the holes, break tackles and he has that burst of speed. He is just a good runner. Power and speed, he’s got them both.”"

Mississippi State beat Bowling Green 21-20 and Kentucky 28-22 with both victories at home. Mississippi State’s only other victories were against Alcorn State and Troy, so upsetting USC will be a tall task.
