The Utah Jazz and Gordon Hayward are no more than a handful of hours away from having their contract extension window close, something that appears more and more likely as the clock continues to tick.
Both Hayward and the Jazz have been attempting to hammer out a contract extension in the past few weeks (more like months, honestly) but the two sides just haven’t been able to come to an agreement.
ESPN’s Marc Stein suggested that Hayward would cash in even more once the Jazz agreed to an extension with big man, Derrick Favors a few weeks back, which could be a reason for the potential hold up.
Now we hear from Yahoo Sports, who says that both the Jazz and Hayward are not close on a deal, suggesting there is a ‘long way to go’:
Gordon Hayward and Jazz have until midnight EST to agree on extension, but sides still have a long way to go for a deal, sources tell Yahoo.
Of course, things have been known to speed up quite quickly in contractual talks so a deal isn’t completely out of question.
If the two sides can’t come to an agreement, Hayward will become a restricted free agent at season end.
