The New York Rangers shut out the terrible Buffalo Sabres tonight, and while Henrik Lundqvist will get a lot of love for finally showing his A-game, let’s not leave Chris Kreider out. Ryan Miller stood on his head in this contest and stopped 44 of 46 shots and still was handed the loss. One of the two shots that did go in was a beauty though.
Check out Kreider banking the puck in off of Miller from behind the net.
That’s some embattled player on embattled player crime right there. Few guys have taken it in the shins in New York like Kreider has over the last two seasons, so watching him make a highlight reel play is just dandy.
He was recalled when the Rangers started losing forwards at a disturbing rate and appears engaged and confident in a Rangers uniform right now. Goals like this certainly help up the confidence quotient as well.
Miller, on the other hand, has received a pathetic amount of offensive support from the Sabres. Matt Moulson didn’t fire a single shot tonight, and Buffalo can’t seem to get it together on the whole. Anytime your goalie makes 44 saves and you can’t even sneak one by the opposition’s goalie, that’s bad news.
Good for Kreider finally making some press for positive reasons though. He’s had a tough set of time since becoming the playoff hero for the Rangers, only to fall from grace in a bone-crunching sort of way.
