On Wednesday, the college football world was blindsided just a bit by the sudden resignation of Florida Atlantic Owls head coach, Carl Pelini. In a situation that could only be described as bizarre, the events unfolded as the resignation hit the news wires, followed by reports of police on campus all day, and then a press conference by school officials formally announcing the action. Defensive coordinator Pete Rekstis also stepped down.

Now, we know a little bit more as to why Pelini–and his assistant–stepped down from the program in the middle of his second year on the job.

Another FAU assistant, Matt Edwards, says in an affidavit that he personally has seen Pelini use marijuana and cocaine within the last year.

Wednesday, the marijuana claims were beginning to make their rounds, but the cocaine addition is a new one.

Edwards also claimed that he saw Rekstis partaking in the same acts this past year as well.

Now, the situation has become much, much clearer.
