If Carmelo Anthony would choose to do so, he could end up as a free agent next summer and pass up more than $23 million to remain with the New York Knicks. There are plenty of people who believe Anthony will be looking to join another superstar for his next contract, but perhaps we all jumped the gun in thinking Anthony would test the market.
During a recent interview with TNT before the Knicks Halloween match up with the Chicago Bulls, Anthony let out the big news that Knicks fans had been hoping to hear — he wants to retire as a member of the New York Knicks.
“They pulled all the strings to get me here, and I wanted to be here,” Anthony said. “I want to retire in New York. Let’s just be quite frank. I think a lot of people jumped the gun when I said I wanted to be a free agent. And yeah, I want people to come play in New York. I want them to want to play in New York. I want New York to be that place where guys want to come and play in New York.”
Of course, stars have been known to change their minds, so don’t get too excited yet.
