Most teams in the NHL wouldn’t be able to say “no Jeff Carer? No problem.” The Los Angeles Kings didn’t quite say that when they made their reinforcement call-ups to replace the injured forward, but the response was pretty close. While the news of Carter going to the IR is not good, it has to be reassuring to the franchise that they can call on high-quality prospects such as Linden Vey and Tyler Toffoli in response.

While Sutter was clearly upset that he had to find out about an injury to one of his top players from the media, Twitter is a beast as we’ve all come to know. Arguably the grumpiest coach in the NHL will have to find a way to replace Carter, and will likely lean on Vey and Toffoli first and foremost.
Those two were the top scorers for the Manchester Monarchs in the AHL prior to being recalled, and represent the cream of the crop for L.A. in terms of prospects.
Toffoli in particular possesses a strong goal-scoring touch, and while he hasn’t quite found his game at the NHL level, the injury to Carter could very well give him the opportunity to do so. Vey, on the other hand, is more of a setup guy.
If neither of these youngsters can’t find a way to make a positive impact for the Kings, Tanner Pearson is still in the minors and could be capable of providing a boost as well.
In case you weren’t already aware: L.A.’s top line in the minors rivals the third line on at least a third of the teams in the NHL.
