Orlando Magic want to trade Jameer Nelson for first round draft pick

The Orlando Magic are one of the youngest teams in the league, which includes an extremely youthful backcourt.

Building the backcourt of the future, the Magic appear to feel point guard Jameer Nelson is expendable and according to ESPN, are looking to secure a first round pick in exchange for the veteran guard:

The Magic, according to the latest rumbles, would surrender Nelson today if offered a future first-round pick for him. Orlando GM Rob Hennigan continues to chase draft picks and young assets above all else as he remakes the Magic.

I want to win the lotto too – but I don’t think that’s going to happen.

Nelson isn’t exactly a spring chicken and teams have become extremely reluctant to give up a first round pick in trades.

No team who is expected to be in the lotto will have much interest in Nelson, so the pick would need to come from the bottom half of the first round, likely somewhat protected.

It’s possible a team in need of guard depth could bite on the Magic’s request, though, they may need to reduce their asking price if they really want to make a move.
