As most of you probably already know, and if not you can see the story here, that Marcia Wallace, the actress who provided the voice of Bart Simpson’s lovelorn 4th grade teacher Mrs. Krabappel, has passed away at the age of 70.
During this weekend’s episode, entitled ‘Four Regrettings and a Funeral’, they will pay tribute to the actress.
No, this is not the funeral for Mrs. Krabappel, nor is it the funeral for the character that the producers of the show plan to kill off somewhere in the future. They have said that this will be the death of a minor character in the show.
In this spirit, they have made some additional changes to their programming lineup this weekend. In lieu of airing a repeat of American Dad, they are instead going to air Season 3’s episode 16 entitled ‘Bart the Lover.’
In this episode, Bart notices that his teacher Mrs. Krabappel posted a personal ad in search of a new companion. Thinking this is the greatest opportunity ever when it comes to getting back at his teacher for constantly coming down on him, he begins to write love letters to her.
Eventually, the two of them schedule to meet; however, being as Bart is not a 30-something man, he cannot make his date. Instead, he chooses to stand outside and watch as she waits alone for her would-be suitor. However, when he notices that Mrs. Krabappel is genuinely sad at being stood up, he hatches a plan to make everything right once again.
This episode originally aired February 13, 1992. It is hard to believe that this episode aired over 11 years ago.
It was this episode that earned Marcia Wallace an Emmy in 1992.
“Bart the Lover” will air in the 7:30 p.m. time slot, and serve as the lead-in to the new episode entitled “Four Regrettings and a Funeral.” Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the producers will end the episode with a tribute card honoring Marcia Wallace.
Oh, and in case you somehow missed it, the Simpsons will be leading in to the new episode with an all new couch gag that turned out to be An Unexpected Journey. (See what I did there?)
