The New York Mets have reportedly coveted free agent pitcher Bronson Arroyo for quite some time and Arroyo appears to be mutually interested in the club, this according to his agent.
“Bronson is an East Coast guy and would definitely consider the Mets,” Terry Bross told the Post. “But we’re going to take our time with this.”
Arroyo, who is 36 and will be 37 by the time Spring Training hits has suggested he wants a somewhat lucrative multi-year deal, something the Cincinnati Reds have balked at offering. There’s no word on if the Mets would offer more years/money than the Reds, though they appear to be the most interested party at this time.
Arroyo, despite his age, had another solid season posting 14 wins with a 3.79 ERA, no small task considering the home run happy ballpark he pitches half of his games in.
The 13-year-veteran has had a sub 3.88 ERA for four of his past five seasons.
