On Saturday, Heisman contender Johnny Manziel and the 6-2 Texas A&M Aggies will welcome in the 1-6 UTEP Miners in sort of a breather contest, taking a step out of the rugged schedule of the SEC for a week.
Texas A&M bounced back in a huge way last week, defeating Vanderbilt easily, 56-24, just a week after they were beaten at home by the Auburn Tigers by just four points in a down-to-the-wire thriller. Despite A&M having two losses this season and being virtually eliminated from the national title race, they still have a potential at-large BCS berth to play for and Manziel has been making a clear case lately to be considered for his second straight Heisman.
UTEP of Conference USA has certainly seen better days. Since beating New Mexico State back on Sep. 14, they’re on a five-game losing streak and, aside from the Louisiana Tech loss, none of the games have been remotely close. Defensively, they’re giving up an astounding 38.7 points per game, which only spells great things for the Aggies’ offense and Manziel’s Heisman stats.
