Gregg Popovich says Kawhi Leonard is better player than Bruce Bowen

San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich isn’t a man of many words (something sideline reporters around the NBA know far too well), but when he does speak, it’s usually pretty interesting.

Case in point? His recent comments suggesting that small forward Kawhi Leonard is a better player than former longtime Spurs role player and defender extraordinaire, Bruce Bowen.

It wasn’t so much that Popovich said Leonard was the better player as it was how he said it.

Per Dave McMenamin:

Popovich: “He’s a lot better than Bruce Bowen. Bruce Bowen couldn’t dribble and couldn’t pass. He shot 3s in the corner and he played good D, he played great D. So we want Kawhi to match Bruce’s great D first and foremost, but after that he’s a much better offensive player.”

So in short, he can play basketball and Bowen couldn’t – outside of being an irritating gnat on defense.

Okay, maybe it’s not that cut and dry, but it sure sounded like it coming from Popovich.

Be funny to hear what Bowen thinks of such analysis.
