Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota has only lost one game since taking over the starting duties for the Ducks last year. As you probably remember — unless, like me, you’ve repressed the painful memory so deeply that no psychologist can ever bring it to the surface — that one loss game against the Stanford Cardinal last year.
The Stanford game wasn’t one of Mariota’s best performance, and the Oregon offense was brought to a screeching halt by the Stanford defense. The sophomore sensation was recently asked if the loss provides a little extra motivation heading into this year’s game, but he denied that he was thinking about last year:
It can’t be more than a faceless opponent because that takes away from what we’ve developed and what we’ve built here. I’m just going to approach it like another game, that’s been successful for us. If I try to press and try to do too much, that’s going to get us out of our momentum (The Register Guard).
The Ducks and the Cardinal will play on Thursday in what should be one of the best games of the college football season. Coverage will begin at 6:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
