When New Orleans Saints take the field against the New York Jets today, they will give defensive coordinator Rob Ryan a chance to do something he has never done before, defeated his brother, Jets head coach Rex Ryan, for the first time ever.

According to Pro Football Talk, since becoming coordinators or higher, the Ryan brothers have squared off four times. Rex Ryan in currently 4-0.

During this period, Rex is 2-0 as head coach of the Jets, and 2-0 as the defensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens. During this period, Rob Ryan has been the defensive coordinator of the Raiders, Browns, and Cowboys.

For all intents and purposes, Rex Ryan’s undefeated streak against his brother looks like it is about to end. Rob Ryan’s 6-1 Saints are one of the NFL’s best teams this season. Ryan has the defensive playing surprising well, and when you have quarterback Drew Brees, any game is winnable. On the other hand, Rex Ryan’s Jets are coming off a blowout loss against the Bengals, and I’m sure Rob Ryan is excited to have his defense go after rookie quarterback Geno Smith.
