Despite their World Series loss, the St. Louis Cardinals have a ton of talented pitchers – too many, if one could ever have such a problem. That’s why it’s likely the Red Birds will attempt to trade one of their arms this offseason, namely Shelby Miller or Lance Lynn – this according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
With Carlos Martinez meriting a look-see as a starter — and Rosenthal wanting the same — it’s increasingly likely that general manager John Mozeliak shops Lance Lynn or Shelby Miller to simultaneously create an opening while addressing a core need at shortstop.
With Carlos Beltran a pending free agent, there could be a handful of changes to the Cardinals’ roster this offseason, especially with such a pressing need for an offensive weapon – a need that would only grow if Beltran departs.
Miller wasn’t even used in the World Series, a sign that the team may be more comfortable with Lynn, though Lynn himself didn’t look overly special this season, posting a near 4.00 ERA.
