Alexei Emelin injury update
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin has been cleared for contact, which means the ultra-physical blueliner can go back to being his regular self again. Few players in the NHL can lower the boom like the Russian defender, and the Canadiens will be glad to welcome him back to a defensive unit that is already among the stingiest in the league.
Only three teams allow fewer goals per game on average than Montreal, while their shots against on average could stand to come down a little.
Everyone knows the kind of impact the Emelin can have out on the ice though.
He’s one the top open-ice hitters in the NHL and embraces the lost art form with aplomb. The Canadiens will get him back sooner rather than later now that he’s been cleared to practice without the no-contact colors.

Emelin hopes to be back in the lineup next week, but a definitive timetable has not yet been set in stone.

Montreal seems to be getting healthy at the right time. They just got Max Pacioretty back off of the IR, while Daniel Briere hasn’t experienced any setbacks in his recover from a concussion.
