Butch Jones says Tennessee Volunteers must toughen up

Tennessee Volunteers head coach Butch Jones knows his team is up against a formidable opponent this Saturday. The Volunteers, who allow over 200 rushing yards per game, will play an Auburn Tigers team that averages an SEC-best 306.2 yards per game on the ground. If the Volunteers don’t bring their A+ game defensively, things could get ugly.

Jones recently spoke about how his team must develop a tougher attitude:

We’re going to be a physically tough-minded football team in everything that we do. We call it Tennessee tough and it’s not just a fancy slogan. We have to get much tougher as a football team. I’m not going to tolerate it as a head football coach, not (as) the caretaker of Tennessee football. Tennessee football is not going to be soft (AL.com).

Jones also revealed that Tennessee will be conducting full-contact practices with live tackling this week to prepare for the anticipated physicality of Saturday’s game.
