NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers looking to trade Steve Nash?

The Los Angeles Lakers paid a small ransom to bring Steve Nash to Southern California when they acquired him from the Phoenix Suns two years ago, but it’s possible that relationship is already on the fritz.

According to Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld, the Lakers could be entertaining the thought of trading Nash with the Toronto Raptors as a potential landing spot:

Steve Nash is another vet who may be traded this year. I’ve heard Toronto as a possible landing spot for Nash from multiple league sources.

The move does make some sense as the Raptors are among the most active teams in trade talks and are looking to trade just about anybody they can, including Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan.

Nash only has one year left on his deal, just over $9 million and would be returning to his native Canada, a place he has expressed a desire to play. It would get the Lakers out of Nash’s contract and lingering injury problems will potentially getting a solid asset in return, if such a move was to go down.

Of course, it’s nothing more than a rumor at this point but it’s a deal that does make some sense for both teams – though it’s doubtful anything would get done prior to February’s trade deadline.

The raptors are not looking to trade their roster way u fucktard. They get him for DJ and 2nd rounder.

  • Pimptastic

Both Gay and Derozan could excel in the Lakers offense, and either would be an improvement on the defensive end.

  • De Mar

maybe not but a possibility would be trading derozan for nash. I love the raptors and derozan (big fan) but it makes perfect sense for both teams because both players return to their homeland; Derozan from compton, cali…and ya nash is canadian. But also raptors could afford to get rid of derozan if he doesn’t prove himself this year because we have a promising terrence ross who’s pretty much derozan but can shoot a 3. Raptors would be relieving themselves of some cap space too. Derozan would be re-united with college teammate Nick young and those two will form a dynamic duo in L.A! Toronto will be fine because the lineup hasn’t really changed. I seen Terrence ross make the same shots DeMar does except Ross can make 3′s. I dont understand why DeMar hasn’t been able to produce a long range shot…we still have to see though…n e ways don’t think it would be happening but I think Lakers would want to be targeting Derozan over gay, plus kobe can mentor him…both play SG and good at the mid-range game. Derozan also idolized Kobe growing up. Wonderland happy ending! As a raptors fan, I wouldn’t want to see DeMar or Gay go but if we can somehow use those two as asset to position our selves to get Wiggins. I wouldn’t mind that. I Hope ujiri is considering Wiggins this year…..ross, wiggins and JV…thats a good young core *dreaming* LA LA LA LA night

Nash has no desire to go to Toronto. They offered him $30 million to come there, and he chose to go to the Lakers. His kids are in LA. That’s where he wants to be.

Hard to believe he has any trade value at this point.

  • Al Simmons

Who would want him, no one. I knew the minute the Lakers signed him he’d be a bust on that team.
Now that he’s hurt he’s totally useless.(cut him & he’d be running & playing soccer tomorrow)
The guy had a few good years in Phoenix but I never saw him as Elite, just 1 dimensional & at the right place & time.
Yet very trade rumor has only 1 destination, The Raptors, because he’s Canadian.
(Notice that he didn’t ever care to play in his country before?) I wouldn’t want him.

I would trade Nash “ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, TO ANYONE who wants him…I would do the same for Gasol BUT nth for PICKS….
