With just three games left to go in what has been a difficult season for the TCU Horned Frogs, they have announced senior running back Waymon James has been suspended for a violation of team rules. The specifics of the violation are not clear and neither is the length of this suspension. To this point in the season, James has carried the ball 55 times for 242 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Horned Frogs have three games left in the season including Iowa State, Kansas State and a big game in the regular season finale against Baylor. Given that James is a senior, this could be the end of his football career in Fort Worth, especially as the Horned Frogs have a sophomore back in B.J. Catalon who has been more productive in every area.
James’ contributions were largely as a rotational option to spell Catalon. It remains who will be asked to step up and fill that role but TCU is not short on running backs they can try to plug in and get an added spark in the absence of James. Should he be able to come back, James could help the Horned Frogs as they try to take on Baylor and improve on a disappointing 1-5 conference record within the Big XII. The Horned Frogs are not going to be able to become bowl eligible this season.
