Virginia Tech Hokies decide not to bench Logan Thomas

Heading into a huge ACC Coastal showdown with the 11th ranked Miami Hurricanes, the Virginia Tech Hokies will not be making a change at quarterback.

Senior Logan Thomas has been a disaster for the Hokies this season.

In the Hokies’ last two games, losses to the Duke Blue Devils and Boston College Eagles, Thomas has thrown two touchdowns and six interceptions. On the season, he’s completed 167-of-300 passes for 2,056 yards with 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 296 yards and four touchdowns.

Thomas’ critics have become more vocal and he has responded by becoming more vocal himself in defending his play.

On Monday, his coach also stood up for him.

“Absolutely, he’s the quarterback,” Hokies’ head coach Frank Beamer told Andy Bitter of the Virginian-Pilot. “He gives us a chance to win. There is no question in our mind that he’s the guy.”

Although the Hokies’ have two conference losses, a victory over the Hurricanes would put them in a tie for first in the ACC’s Coastal division and they’d hold the tiebreaker over both the Hurricanes and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

“I don’t think smart guys listen to outside people,” Beamer said. “I think you listen to people that can change the direction, and that’s his own teammates and coaches. And us as a group, that’s what’s got to happen. If we start doing what the critics say, we’d be all over the place.”

The Hokies and Hurricanes will kickoff at 7:00 pm EST Saturday.
